It is a cloudy early summer morning in July. The ceiling fan in the bedroom gently whirls round and round. The windows are open and the breeze makes the curtains flutter in a slow, sinuous dance. The rain falls and pitter-patters on the roof. The turtle dove urges its mate to wake up. “Coo, coo, I love you. Wake up and let’s start the day. Coo, coo, coo. Wake up my beloved, wake up…” At the sound of its sweet voice, the other birds raise their heads from beneath their wings. “Cheep, cheep! Good morning!” they greet the rainy day. I wake up from a deep slumber. As I emerge from that dreamlike state, I think to myself, “What a beautiful way to wake up.” A little bird outside my window answers that thought, “Cheep! Cheep! It certainly is!” I lie in bed, eyes closed, luxuriating in the start of this new day. My eyelids droop and once more I fall asleep.
